Guaranteed to be billed as one of the most sensational disaster film ever made. 2012 has been written (along with Harald Kloser) and directed by Roland Emmerich famous for such blockbusters as Independence Day, The Patriot and The Day After Tomorrow.

Emmerich is back to do what he does best – mass destruction!

A global cataclysm occurs which leads to the end of the world and has survivors struggling for their lives, while a US government agency called the “Institute for Human Continuity” attempts to use ships to ensure the survival of the human race. The film explores the idea of a global “Doomsday” event coinciding with the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar’s current cycle on or around December 21, 2012 (the northern hemisphere’s winter solstice).

2012 has a strong cast with the likes of John Cusack (Con Air, War Inc.), Amanda Peet (Jump, The Whole Nine Yards, The X-Files: I Want to Believe), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon 2, Dreamgirls, Saw V), Thandie Newton (Mission: Impossible II, Run Fatboy Run, RocknRolla), Oliver Platt (The West Wing, Frost/Nixon), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men), and Woody Harrelson (Cheers, Will & Grace, Seven Pounds).

The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver; with a release date of November 13, 2009 UK, USA.
