LIFE – New BBC One series narrated by Sir David Attenborough

wp-on-life-david-attenborough

Our planet may be home to more than 30 million different animals and plants. And every single one is locked in its own life-long fight for survival. Life uncovers some extraordinary strategies they’ve developed to stay alive and to breed.

Using state-of-the-art filming techniques, this 10-part BBC One series, narrated by David Attenborough, is about extreme behaviour. It’s survival of the fittest in their battle against daily life or death challenges.

Mind-blowing behaviour captured for TV for the first time includes cheetahs working together to bring down prey twice their size; the courtship battle, known as the heat run, of the humpback whale; a huge number of enormous Humboldt squid joining forces for night-time hunting; and the legendary, fearsome Komodo dragons bringing down their buffalo prey.

Four years in the making, Life is full of surprises, drama and spectacle. It’s nature but not as you know it.

There are strange creatures such as the star-nosed mole, the stalk-eyed fly and the weedy sea dragon. See epic spectacles including millions of fruit bats darkening the Zambian sky, dozens of polar bears feasting on a whale, and a billion butterflies cloaking a forest in Mexico.

Sir David Attenborough Biography

Sir David Attenborough is Britain’s best-known natural history film-maker. His career as a naturalist and broadcaster has spanned nearly five decades and there are very few places on the globe that he has not visited.

Sir David’s first job – after Cambridge University and two years in the Royal Navy – was at the London publishing house Hodder & Stoughton. Then in 1952 he joined the BBC as a trainee producer and it was while working on the Zoo Quest series (1954-64) that he had his first opportunity to undertake expeditions to remote parts of the globe to capture intimate footage of rare wildlife in its natural habitat.

He was Controller of BBC2 (1965-68), during which time he introduced colour television to Britain, then Director of Programmes for the BBC (1969-1972). However in 1973 he abandoned administration altogether to return to documentary-making and writing.

Over the last 25 years he has established himself as the world’s leading natural history programme maker with several landmark BBC series, including Life on Earth (1979), The Living Planet (1984), The Trials of Life (1990), The Private Life of Plants (1995), Life of Birds (1998), Life of Mammals (2002) and Life in the Undergrowth (2005). Sir David is a Trustee of the British Museum and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; an Honorary Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge; a Fellow of the Royal Society and was knighted in 1985.

We all owe Sir David Attenborough a tremendous debt for his skill and dedication in making all of the LIFE series. Most of us will never have the chance to see these creatures for ourselves in a lifetime. His enthusiasm for the subject shines through everything he does. A very big thank you to him and to all the BBC Natural History Team for making these wonderful documentaries which have us all spellbound.

  7. david cartwright says:

The BBC Natural History Unit are the best wildlife film makers in the world and i will support the BBC to the death. So I am not being nit picking when I point out that the beginning of programme 7, when we see Cheetahs stalking Zebras , the 1st shots are of Grevys Zebras,a North African speies but then we switch to Common or Grants Zebras being hunted. This is bad editing which someone should have spotted.Being good at I.T is one thing but they have to have a 1st class knowledge of natural history too,Otherwise anyone could do it

Was it filmed in blue ray? When will it be available and where can it be purchased ?

  21. Julia Sullivan says:

I don’t know what you mean by moderation , I Just want to know the answer to my two questions.

  22. Aaron says:

Ever since i started watching your documenaries, i have come to realise the awesome wonders and the abundance of life in the planet we live in. Unfortunately, i may not have watched most of your documentaries being commented about, but the few i have seen in some of the series – like – life in the freezer, the coral reef, life of mammals, the hunting game, etc, especially the parting shot in one of your documentaries about chimps, gorillas and we humans, are an eye opener. How i wish i could walk into any video stall and find your documentaries – the blue planet, planet earth and the complete “Life series” i definitely would be glad.

  23. Aaron says:

Sorry, i forgot to say – I DOFF MY HAT FOR SIR DAIVD ATTENBOROUGH.

  24. Kerry Fraser says:

Once again the American and Canadian versions have replaced Attenborough’s narration. This time with Oprah Winfrey. What a crying shame.

  25. James says:

I love this series but am trying to see if I can find the original on dvd/blu ray. Where I live they removed David’s narration and replaced it with Oprah Winfrey! I hate it when they do that – David Attenborough is the greatest!

  26. Gregg says:

I also would like to get the original version with Sir Attenborough’s
narration. Oprah does a poor job of imitating him, and you can tell she does not understand much of what she is saying.
Also, I have been searching to no avail to find the meaning of the theme music. I’m sure it is an African dialect. Please help!!

  27. Tobin says:

Planet Earth and Life series are the best one’s I ve ever watched and David Attenborough’s narration is simply the best . Hope to see more series of this sort narrated only by David Attenborough and Nobodyelse. He is now become my Personal HERO.

  28. Jeff says:

To all those who, like me, admire and respect Sir David Attenborough, David has become the patron of the Optimum Population Trust, as he is very concerned about the growing size of the human population and its effect on our planet. Check this out on the web yourself, and make up your own mind.

  29. Robert says:

GREAT Series, someone maybe know if the soundtrack is already released?
