Destiny’s Child Star Michelle Williams Makes Her London Stage Debut As ‘Roxie Hart’ In Chicago

Michelle Williams makes her West End stage debut starring as ‘Roxie Hart’ in the smash hit West End musical CHICAGO at the Cambridge Theatre from Monday 13 July until 22 August. Michelle Williams, the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, record producer and actress, rose to fame as one third of Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child, comprising Michelle Williams, Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland, is the top selling female group of all time.

Following the release of her own chart topping debut album in 2002 Michelle Williams then went on to make her stage debut in the title role of Aida, the hit Broadway musical with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. She subsequently went on to star in the award-winning musical The Color Purple in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

CHICAGO currently also stars Leigh Zimmerman as ‘Velma Kelly’, Terence Maynard as ‘Billy Flynn’, David Ganly as ‘Amos Hart’, and Di Botcher as ‘Mama Morton’.

Due to its ongoing success, CHICAGO has extended its booking period by a further six months until 30 October 2010.

CHICAGO opened at the Adelphi Theatre on 18 November 1997 to rave reviews and immediately became a sell-out hit. CHICAGO won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Musical Production’ as well as the 1998 Critics Circle Drama Award for ‘Best Musical’.  CHICAGO transferred from the Adelphi Theatre to the Cambridge Theatre in April 2006.  Currently playing in New York, Australia, Denmark and on tour in the US, with forthcoming productions in Japan, Korea, Holland and Spain, CHICAGO is produced in London by the Broadway producers Barry and Fran Weissler.

CHICAGO, which celebrated its eleventh birthday at the end of 2008, is the longest running Broadway musical in the West End ever.

CHICAGO, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. CHICAGO is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.  The West End production of CHICAGO is staged by the entire original Broadway creative team.

Tickets for CHICAGO, priced from £25.00 – £59.00, are available from the Cambridge Theatre Box Office on 0844 412 4652.  Performance times at the Cambridge Theatre are Mondays to Thursdays at 8.00pm, with Friday performances at 5.00pm and 8.30pm and Saturday performances at 3.00pm and 8.00pm. CHICAGO is now booking until 30 October 2010.
