Making Designer Underwear Ethical – CottonBoy!

One Nation Editor Andrew Howard talks to Chief Designer and Owner of CottonBoy – Albert Lopez.

Thanks for joining me Albert, You started out very young as a designer tell us how you came up with your idea and why cotton?

Back in high school I came up with the idea of growing cotton and exploring how it is developed into the clothes, which we wear now. I took my project so serious that I was inspired to become a designer and create my own label, which is now a Registered Trademark.

I hear you are currently in the process of launching your CottonBoy underwear label and introducing it to the market, what should we expect?

My CottonBoy underwear line launches this month. It’s a vintage look with my CottonBoy logo on it. There will be four different collections in briefs; Signature, CB 5, Touch and Vintage. I will also have a boxer briefs collection, which will feature Silver boxers with different looks.

Now the name CottonBoy should give it away but tell people why your line is green?

All my fabrics in my collection are mainly cotton, wool, and linen, silk and leather. I also want to help our environment by going green.

Who do you envision the CottonBoy man to be?

Our CottonBoy customer is from 17-35 years old who likes to be comfortable, fashionable and natural. He loves the fitting and the feel of the material on his body and enjoys a great fit.

Things as a designer you can’t live without?

My phone, computer, Internet, Nikon camera and magazines that give the latest trends in fashion. Oh and of course my own CottonBoy underwear!

Who or what gives you your inspiration?

Ralph Lauren was definitely my fashion icon and motivator for my line and Uncle Pedro Encarnacion.

What would be your top 3 tips for being green in 2009?

My 3 tips would be wear cotton (especially CottonBoy), buy a hybrid vehicle to reduce emission gasses and finally planting more plants and trees in your garden or neighbourhood. I would also like to encourage as many people as possible to recycle instead of throwing everything away
