We all love a Modern Family
January welcomes back everyone’s top TV series Modern Family following the Christmas break.
Fresh off the back of a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical) and a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, the second half of Season One looks set to be even better than the first.
The sitcom, from the Emmy® award-winning writers of Frasier, centres around three very different American family units who are being followed by a film crew. There’s Phil and Claire and their three children Haley, Alex and Luke, Jay and Gloria and her son Manny, and Cameron and Mitchell and their adopted daughter Lily.
The series has been a huge hit in the US and has so far attracted guest stars such as Edward Norton, Shelley Long and Elizabeth Banks. In the first episode back to Sky1 HD and Sky1 on January 21 at 8pm, Benjamin Bratt is the latest guest star to join the show as Javier, Manny’s infamously unreliable Dad, who Jay is less than pleased to see. Then in the following week’s episode, The Usual Suspect’s Chazz Palminteri stars as Shorty, an old friend of Jay’s who Gloria suspects may be secretly gay. Minnie Driver will also appear later in the season as Claire’s friend and former co-worker.
Since the first season began on Sky1 HD on October 15, Modern Family has garnered much critical fanfare. Heat Magazine called it “seriously clever, well-observed and very funny”, Sunday Telegraph said it is “genuinely funny” and the News of the World named it “Sky1’s hidden gem of a comedy import”.
Modern Family has been a continued hit on Sky1 HD following its sizeable launch on October 15, where it reached a cumulative audience of 1.1 million. Each episode has since attracted a cumulative audience in excess of 1m viewers and the series has reached in excess of two million viewers.
Modern Family is created by the Emmy® award-winning Frasier writers and producers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd. Following a hugely positive response the show, Levitan commented: “I guess it just goes to show you that good things happen when you pay close attention to your family and exploit their idiosyncrasies for the whole world to see.”
Modern Family stars Ed O’Neill as Jay, Julie Bowen as Claire, Ty Burrell as Phil, Sofía Vergara as Gloria, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron, Sarah Hyland as Haley, Nolan Gould as Luke, Ariel Winter as Alex, and Rico Rodriguez as Manny.
Modern Family returns to Sky1 HD and Sky1 at 8pm on Thursday 21 January at 8.00pm.
