Escape To Neverland With Northern Ballet Theatre’s Peter Pan
Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT) is reviving one of its most spectacular and popular productions for 2010. J.M Barrie’s Peter Pan returns to the repertoire and will be performed at Milton Keynes Theatre, 20 – 24 April.
The tale of Peter Pan has delighted children and adults for over 100 years NBT’s production will enchant you with their death defying feats of flying, magical puppets, pirates, fairy dust and crocodiles. Follow Peter, Wendy, John and Michael as they soar high into the sky to an enchanted world where wicked pirates prey on Lost Boys and adventure lurks around every corner.
An exceptional and accomplished creative team came together to create Peter Pan which received its world premiere in December 2004 at the Grand Theatre, Leeds to great acclaim. Direction and choreography is by NBT Artistic Director David Nixon OBE and co-direction by NBT Associate Artist, Patricia Doyle. Olivier award-winning designer Peter Mumford created the sets and lighting, bringing the Darling family home, Captain Hook’s pirate ship and the magical landscape of Neverland to life. Oscar-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love) wrote his first ever ballet score for Peter Pan which was subsequently recorded by the NBT Orchestra and published by Quartz.
As well as perfecting their dance steps on stage the NBT dancers will also have to perform spectacular moves in the air after intensive training with theatre flying experts, Flying by Foy.
David Nixon explains his fascination with the story: “Peter Pan appeals to the child in all of us and is perfect entertainment for the entire family. It is an adventure in every sense of the word incorporating flying dancers, puppets, mermaids and pirates.”
Peter Pan is supported by David Lloyd and this adaptation is made possible by kind permission of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
