Destiny continues as STARGATE UNIVERSE returns

In October 2009, the new addition to the popular Stargate brand, STARGATE UNIVERSE, launched on Sky1 HD to huge audiences. Now, after a mid season hiatus, the series returns to the channel for the second half of its first season.

Star Gate Universe follows a small group of military personnel, scientists and civilians who escape through the Stargate from their hidden base when it comes under attack. They take refuge on board a ship called the Destiny, but it soon emerges that the ship is on an unknown path and unable to return to Earth. In the last episode before the break, ‘Justice’, members of the team investigating a nearby planet stumble across a seemingly abandoned spacecraft on a hill. Colonel Young (Justin Louis, Saw V) and Dr Nicholas Rush (BAFTA winner and Emmy® nominee Robert Carlyle, 28 Weeks Later, 24: Redemption) get into a brawl which results in Young knocking out Rush and going back to the Destiny without him.

Executive producer Robert Cooper said that the next episodes will explore “the implications of leaving Rush on the planet, the real division that will cause amongst the crew [and] the judgment of those characters and their actions.” He added: “We have a lot of things planned for the second half of the season. There is a big story point coming up that does introduce an alien race.

In the first episode back on Tuesday 15 April at 8pm, ‘Space’, the Destiny crew discover a piece of Ancient technology that accidentally transports Colonel Young onto an unknown alien vessel. Writer Joseph Mallozzi commented, “It’s a very action-driven episode, and also our first big space battle story.”

The series also stars Lou Diamond Phillips (Che, La Bamba) as Colonel Telford, Ming-Na (ER) as human resources executive Camile Wray, David Blue (Ugly Betty) as slacker Eli Wallace, Brian J. Smith (Law & Order) as Lieutenant Matthew Scott, Elyse Levesque (Smallville) as the daughter and aid of a US Senator Chloe Armstrong, Alaina Huffman (Smallville) as Master Sergeant Tamara Johansen and Jamil Walker Smith (Hey Arnold!) as Master Sergeant Ronald Greer.

Stargate Universe continues on Tuesdays from 13 April, exclusive to Sky1 HD and Sky1.

Can’t wait for this to be back on our screens. How will Carlyle get back from that planet?
